Bank of Stanly Corral - 2007 Relay For Life

Friday May 11h 2007 - Albemarle, NC - Bank of Stanly is excited to communicate that our Relay for Life team had a very productive evening with team members raising $5,196 in contributions from friends, family, associates and directors. "Bank of Stanly Corral" was the theme for 2007, which was recognized as Most Creative Campsite, by the RFL committee.

This year saw the return of Relay for Life of Stanly County to the Charles Cannon Memorial YMCA Park, in Albemarle, where more than $180,000 was raised, in aid of cancer research, by end of day on Saturday.

According to the American Cancer Society, 1,444,920 new cancer cases and 559,650 deaths caused by cancer are projected to occur in the United States during 2007.

Corporate sponsors and 52 teams were challenged to raise money any way they could, and many set up tents and booths with games and food available. Throughout Friday evening and into the early hours of Saturday morning, each team was to have at least one person walking the relay, at all times.

“It’s something I’m really passionate about,” said Jennifer McSwain, event chair of Relay for Life of Stanly County. “It’s really a way to reach out and help people and really about a community getting together. Relay means hope and that’s the main thing.”

The evening was topped off with a "Mr. Relay Beauty Contest", with Bank of Stanly associates rasing an additional $1,067 in donations. Team member Donnie Swaringen (Don-Juanette) and Sherman Greer (Pimp Daddy) stole the show with their performance as husband and wife.

"I want to thank everyone who participated in some way, either by walking, raising money, or contributing to this most worthy event!" said Susan Gibson, Uwharrie Capital Corp Human Resources Director. "Once again we have all come together to Make a Difference in the lives of those affected by cancer."
