Anson Bank & Trust Honors Teacher of the Year
and Outstanding Business

Tuesday, May 13th 2008 - Albemarle, NC - Anson Bank & Trust honored Anson County’s 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year Jennifer Ross recently at the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mrs. Ross teaches second grade at Wadesboro Primary School. “Teachers have a special mission of helping mold and encourage our children to be what they can be, to dream big dreams and realize those dreams,” said Kenneth Huntley, Anson Bank & Trust’s Board of Directors’ Chair, who recognized Mrs. Ross.

“Jennifer Ross comes from a long line of educators. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, parents and sisters are all in the field of education so you could say teaching is in Jennifer’s blood. She has a passion for helping others and truly loves children so there is no better job for Mrs. Ross. Mrs. Ross received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Spanish from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania and received her Masters in Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Jennifer has taught for 10 years. Her interests include reading, sports and time with her two boys. She is contemplating going back to school for her doctorate in curriculum and instructional supervision.”

Michael Horne Florist was recognized as Anson Bank & Trust’s 2008 Outstanding Business. “Michael Horne Florist opened in April 2002 in the historic Knott’s Home, where owner Ralph Coble had established his business - Lord George Antiques. Both businesses compliment the other nicely” said Jim Strayhorn, President and CEO of Anson Bank & Trust. “Michael, along with his brother Alan, and their mother Mabel, have made the back of the house once again a flower shop, as it was over 100 years ago.

Michael is an award winning designer with Teleflora, Greensboro Triad PFA Designer of the Year for 2000 and earned his North Carolina Certified Professional Designation before returning to Wadesboro. With hard work and attention to detail, Michael and Alan approach each day with vigor and determination to provide excellent customer service and the freshet floral product. It is our pleasure to recognize Michael Horne Florist as our 2008 Anson County Outstanding Business.”

Mrs. Ross was presented with a monetary donation and a desk clock frame from Anson Bank & Trust. The clock frame featured an original piece of art depicting her area of teaching. Mr. Horne received a grandfather wall clock in appreciation of his contribution to the local economy.
