What Is EMV  /  Chip Card?

debit card

EMV is the international standard for Chip Card technology. EMV is also known as “Chip Cards”, “Smart Cards” or sometimes “Chip and Pin”.

EMV introduces a small computer or “chip” to every payment device. The most important feature of EMV is the dynamic data generated with each transaction. This dynamic data makes it nearly impossible to create counterfeit cards or replay intercepted transactions.

You can swipe your card the same way you currently do. If prompted, insert your card with chip side facing up and leave it in the terminal until your transaction is complete. Follow the prompts to enter your PIN or sign as needed. Always remember to take your card out of the terminal when you’re finished.
